Welcome
Happy Campers is one of two ORPGSoc ↗ Society Games for Summer 2025.
Happy Campers is set in a children's summer camp in the beautiful land of Britmerica. Here you are a young adult choosing to go on Camp Ohiocester's Research & Recharge programme. Characters will be able to rediscover childlike wonder, and learn the importance of temporary connections. Some characters may have to contend with anxiety or the struggle of making new friends, while other characters go exploring the woods at night. Learn why the Camp is renting out to university students, learn what motivates the staff—and find out what your character wants to gain from this journey.
Happy Campers will run on Monday evenings on alternate weeks, starting July 21st, on Discord ↗. For more information, visit When and Where.
Getting Started
If you are new to Society Games, or to roleplaying in general, Intro to the Wiki System, Uptimes & Sessions and Downtimes & Turnsheets may be useful reads.
If you are new to online games, make sure to check out Intro to Discord Games.
To get an idea of the game's tone and central themes, see Style and Tone and Play This If.... To be sure which themes are allowable within Happy Campers, please read our Conduct and Acceptable Themes Policy. To learn more about the game's setting, see the pages in the Setting section of the sidebar.
For information on accessibility, including how to change the Wiki theme to 'Readable', please see Accessibility.
And finally, if you wish to participate in the game, please see Character Creation. There will be an optional Character Creation event on July 14th online, and you can also get help and ideas via our Discord server ↗.
Treasure Hunt
Alongside Happy Campers uptimes and downtimes, the wiki houses a series of puzzles, contained in hidden external web pages. These pages may be found by directly clicking on words or images in the wiki, or by changing the final word of a URL. Please note that these are strictly OC. Finding or solving these puzzles will not have any IC consequences, nor are the puzzles canon in-universe. Solving the puzzles might give you, the player, more information about the camp, but we ask that these details are not used to metagame (to read more about this, please see the Uptimes and Sessions page).
Balloting
In order to be able to run a high quality game and maintain a healthy work-life balance, if more than 24 players express interest in Happy Campers we will be forced to ballot. The ballot will be done jointly with Contingency, so that not having a place in one game makes you more likely to have a place in the other (and choosing to enter for only one game does not hurt your chances). In the event of balloting, we will admit groups in a certain order until we reach a group which will take us over the player cap, at which point that group will be balloted for places. Subsequent groups will not be balloted and will not get places as players.
The priority groups are as follows:
- Special cases (largely reserved for room-bookers and other extraordinary circumstances)
- Those balloting preferentially for Happy Campers
- {a} Oxford University students who have not played a Society Game before
- {b} Oxford University students who have played a Society Game before
- {c} Non-Oxford University Students
- Those balloting preferentially for Contingency
- {a} Oxford University students who have not played a Society Game before
- {b} Oxford University students who have played a Society Game before
- {c} Non-Oxford University Students
Balloters will be assigned to a game from highest to lowest above, according to their preference between the two. If a player's preferred game is full, but the other game has space, they will be given the option to switch preference. Players without a preference will be assigned to a game in whichever way allows the GMs to fulfil as many prefential ballots as possible; if it makes no difference, they'll be able to choose.
Please also note that, while the ballot form is a joint exercise, the character creation forms are conducted separately, and here the two games differ in timing.
The ballot can be found in this Google Form ↗ and closes at 13:00 (1:00 pm) BST on Tuesday 8th July.
