Appalake District

The Appalake District is a national park and mountain range stretching across a wide region of Britmerica. Camp Ohiocester sits neatly on its border, meaning that many classes and hikes (and adventures away from the prying eyes of the counsellors) take place here.

Rocky beaches and dense forests litter the edge of Lake Nell, situated at the side of the camp. You might find yourself here in a swimming lesson, making or a raft, or just sunbathing. Kayaking is a particularly popular activity. During the daytime, the lake is full of laughter and peace. At night, though, some people claim that a different kind of guest rears its head—the legendary Lake Nell Monster, or 'Nellie' for short. With sharp teeth and scaly skin, this beast is said to take unsuspecting campers by surprise (though more pragmatic folk attribute it to overactive imaginations).

The Appalake District is the only region where grey, red, and flying squirrels naturally coexist. Maybe 'coexist' is the wrong word—these squirrels hate each other, and if you find yourself in the middle of a squirrel turf war, the safest thing to do is run. They have sharp teeth and violent dispositions.

Other than the squirrels, the District is characterised by a range of animals - birds of prey like eagles and osprey; snakes and lizards lurking in bushes; even sweet hedgehogs under piles of leaves. Great green conifers tower over parts of the mountains, while alpine tundra cover the tips and heather-scattered meadows surround the bottom. Though some parts of the mountains may be dangerous for the untrained and unprepared, it is also home to some of the most beautiful, tranquil scenes in all of Britmerica.
