Activity Centre
Camp Ohiocester is dedicated to making sure that its campers are able to enjoy a multitude of activities and hobbies for resting and recharging their spirits—after all, campers need to be in tip-top shape to achieve their research goals and become better by the end of the program!
The Activity Centre, often called the 'AC' by the campers and staff, is a fairly spacious building, with an auditorium capable of holding a couple dozen students and staff. In a separate room is a swimming pool—which is admittedly on the smaller side. The building is maintained by Jan Woods, the Camp groundskeeper.
Indoor Activities
Swimming Pool
The Camp grounds already has a lake, so the indoor pool isn't particularly popular—or as well-maintained as the rest of the AC is. The pool is more often used by kids whose parents are worried that the lake is unsafe, which is preposterous, considering that in the full century of Camp Ohiocester's running there's only been three incidents at the lake! (Never mind that they all happened since Jenny joined two years ago…)
Art & Meditation
Kit is in charge of weekly Meditation sessions that centre around art to express and process emotions. Traditional art materials—markers, paints, pencils are available – however, Kit likes to involve music therapy wherever possible, even if her ukulele is missing a string. Research is strictly banned in these sessions; Kit keeps eir art room free of all that stuffy academic nonsense.
Outdoor Activities
Zipline
Stretching between two tall towers outside the AC is a 100ft long zipline that's only really impressive on the brochure.
No reported incidents—unless you count the time a parent complained about their kid getting stuck on top of the AC and wouldn't come down. It’s not the camp’s fault the kid was afraid of heights. The zipline itself is probably fine.
Climbing Wall
Right next to the AC is a fifteen-foot climbing wall clearly designed for young teens. It has safety gear and ropes which are meticulously managed by Ryder Stokes. No incidents on the Climbing Wall have yet been recorded.
Other activities across the Camp
The Activity Centre is only one place where campers are able to experience the camp to its fullest. Campers can take full advantage of the nature around them as well, whether that's kayaking, swimming, or fishing at Lake Nell, or taking a hike through the woods on some established trails! Just make sure to let your Camp Counsellor know before they worry themselves sick wondering where you are.
