Character Creation
Character Creation in Happy Campers consists of the following components, each of which are detailed further down the page:
- OC information: Inform the GMs (and eventually your fellow players) about your name and pronouns. In addition you will need to supply an email address. If you are under 18 you will need to alert the GMs for safeguarding reasons (this information will not be shared, as per our Privacy Policy).
- IC name(s) and pronouns: Select a name for your character. Please also tell us your character's pronouns.
- Character Questionnaire: Answer some questions on your character and how they’ve ended up at the Camp.
- Quirks: You may take up to 3 character quirks, and can take a quirk multiple times. Quirks do not have positive or negative values in this game – however, you cannot take opposite quirks i.e. you cannot be a tree hugger and an indoor kid. You can take any number of playstyle quirks.
- Public Bio: A bio that will be published on the Player Characters page on this wiki, visible to all players.
- Private Bio: A bio of your character visible only to you and the GMs.
- OC Notes to GMs: A message to the GMs, primarily to inform them how they can make the game more comfortable or accessible for you. Anything that is not covered in the rest of the form should go here.
Here are some sample characters to serve as inspiration!
Name and Pronouns
Happy Campers it is a multicultural modern setting, and names will reflect this. In addition, please tell us your character's IC pronouns, so that we and other players know how to refer to them. These will be visible beside your character's name on the wiki.
Character Questionnaire
The character questionnaire consists of the following questions detailed below:
What does your character study, and what is their project proposal?
Your character can study any subject and your character’s project can be as serious or silly as you wish. However, if your project is silly, how will you choose to justify this to the College board? What is your character’s favourite part of the subject, and why did they choose to study it in the first place?
Note: While most players will be expected to play students (from any University year group), if you are not comfortable with this, tell us what other reasons may have caused your character to end up at the camp i.e. were they involved in an administrative issue.
Why did your character choose to go to the camp?
Your character could’ve ended up here in many different ways. Did they like the local landscape or was it because they’re failing and nowhere else will accept them (you have to get those credits one way or another…)
Does your character have any goals or priorities for this trip?
For an academically driven student, maybe your priority is to create the best project, or maybe you want to sabotage someone else's. For others, maybe you’re just there for the zipline.
It’s also fine to not have any priorities at all – it’s not always about the goal but rather the friends you make along the way.
Bio
Please submit a public bio; this will be visible to all players on the Player Characters page. This public bio may include information that is common knowledge about your character, or how others might perceive them at first glance. This can include, but is not limited to, descriptions of their personality, subject they study, if they’re well known in college, and appearance.
Please also submit a personal bio. This will be visible only to you and the GMs. This includes information that you do not want other players to know about. What are your character’s motivations? Where are they from? What is their backstory? How has this shaped them?
Quirks
Quirks define your interactions as a player with the world of Happy Campers on a mechanical level. They help to shape both your character and your experience as a player. There are two types of Quirks in Happy Campers: Gameplay and Playstyle.
- Character Quirks reflect aspects of your character and their history. These quirks will help build up your character and also affect how your character might experience the game. These quirks do not have assigned values. You may take up to 3 quirks (and you can have repeated quirks) but you cannot take opposite quirks.
- Playstyle Quirks communicate the content and themes that you're comfortable with, thereby tailoring the way the GMs interact with your character. You may also take any number of Quirks from this section. These Quirks also do not have assigned values.
For more information, please see Quirks.
OC Notes to GMs
This section is for anything not already covered by the form. Please let us know any concerns about accessibility, comfort, areas of the game you'd rather avoid or anything else.
