Jenny Lieberman - A Three Piece Band

“…exactly! I have no idea what could’ve prompted them to say that, but oh my god–I couldn’t stop laughing!”

Three voices harmonising as their bodies curl over in conjoined laughter. Clasped hands, fingers interlocking–but no more blushing at the slightest touch, because this is the new normal.

The air between the three; it’s calmer now, quiet. Even as the stadium roars with cheers, or even if the stereo blasts ‘Ohiocester’s Latest Hits’, there is now only a quiet melody between them.

Even as a certain red-headed ex walks past, you no longer throw yourself at him. You no longer throw yourself at anything, because this peace is too sweet to sour over petty grievances.

“Your sculpture is beautiful, Margot!”

“Sculpting is easier with such beautiful muses around me…”

“…but the sculpture isn’t even of us?”

“Well, you know. Beauty isn’t just what you see on the surface”

As they stare up at the night sky, they swear they could almost see a pink hue radiating from some of the brightest stars. Maybe before they would’ve passed it off as a mere fault of their own eyesight, but now they know that maybe, just maybe, what they dreamt of as children is still alive.

They lay down in the soft meadow, falling asleep as they know they are being watched over.

“Yeah…I suppose you’re right.”
